At Community Moving Crew, we treat your belongings like they’re our own. Even with the best hands on deck, the nature of moving involves certain risks. To keep things transparent and avoid any moving-day surprises, we’ve outlined our liability standards below. If any of this is unclear, give us a shout before move day—we want you feeling 100% confident.
1. The Industry Standard (Basic Coverage)
Unless you opt for a premium protection plan, all moves are covered by Basic Carrier Liability. Per federal law, this is set at $0.60 per pound per item.
Note: This is "valuation," not full replacement insurance. For example, if a 50lb TV is damaged, the maximum coverage is $30 ($0.60 \times 50 \text{ lbs}$). For high-value items, we strongly suggest looking into third-party moving insurance.
2. The "Inside-Out" Rule (Mechanical Condition)
We move items under the assumption that they are in good working order, but since we can’t see the internal components, we operate on a "mechanical condition unknown" basis. Community Moving Crew is not liable for internal electronic or mechanical failures unless there is clear, fresh external damage to the item.
3. Keep These With You (High-Value Items)
Some things are simply irreplaceable or too sensitive for a moving truck. We require that customers personally transport items valued at $100 per pound or more, as well as the following:
Jewelry, cash, and personal identification documents.
Prescription medications.
Firearms and ammunition.
Small personal electronics (tablets, laptops, etc.).
4. Appliances & Waterlines
We’re happy to help haul your heavy appliances, but please keep the following in mind:
Plumbing: Our crew members are not licensed plumbers. Any help with water lines is a courtesy only. You must inspect all connections before we leave the site.
Washers: For front-loaders, you must provide and install shipping bolts. We can assist, but we aren't liable for internal drum damage.
5. Home Protection (Floors & Walls)
Moving bulky furniture through tight spaces is a science, but accidents can happen. While we use professional techniques to protect your home, our liability for structural scuffs or damage to floors, walls, and ceilings is capped at $100 per residence.
6. Loading Only (PODS & Rental Trucks)
If you’ve hired us just to load a vehicle you are driving (or a container being shipped by another company), our responsibility ends the moment the item is placed inside. Because we aren't the ones behind the wheel, we cannot be liable for shifts or damages that occur during transit.
7. Staying on the Beaten Path
To protect our equipment and your landscape, our trucks stay on paved surfaces. If you explicitly direct us to drive on grass, dirt, or gravel, Community Moving Crew is not responsible for any damage to the lawn, septic lines, or the truck itself getting stuck.
8. Overhead Clearances
Please ensure there is a clear path for a large truck. We are not liable for damage caused by low-hanging power lines or low-clearance cables. If your location has known height restrictions, please email us ahead of time.
9. Driveways & Parking
Heavy trucks can be tough on concrete. Community Moving Crew is not responsible for driveway cracks or surface damage. If you prefer our truck stays on the street, please block off your driveway and let us know in writing before we arrive.
10. Reporting a Concern
If something didn't go as planned, we want to make it right.
Inspect on-site: Note any visible damage on your paperwork before the crew leaves.
7-Day Window: All formal claims must be submitted in writing within 7 days.
Right to Repair: We reserve the option to inspect and professionally repair any damaged items.
We’re honored to help you settle into your new home. Let’s make this a great move!
